Brookside Mall is undergoing an extension, scheduled for completion at the beginning of 2026. The extension adds an extra 4600 m2 of retail space and introduces key tenants to the centre, such as Mr Price, Telkom, Pick n Pay Clothing, and more.
Arbour Arch Precinct
Arbour Arch Precinct is a new mixed-use development that combines the best of retail, commercial offices and high-end residential. The first phase of retail spaces opened in September, followed by the commercial and second phase of residential space. This new style of living is one of a kind in KZN.

Andrew Barnes is the founder and owner of Barnes Properties, a respected property development company focused on residential and retail projects in Pietermaritzburg and the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. With more than 30 years of experience in the industry, he has built a strong track record of delivering quality developments while contributing to local economic growth. His approach combines strategic thinking with a hands-on commitment to his business and his community.
Andrew’s leadership style is shaped by the values he learned through sport and early mentorship. He believes in leading by example, staying grounded, and working hard alongside his team. He places a strong emphasis on building trust, listening actively, and understanding what motivates people. This people-centred approach has helped him build loyal teams and navigate challenges with confidence and humility.
Outside of property, Andrew has served in leadership roles within the education sector and played a key role in guiding his community through the Covid-19 crisis. He is deeply committed to creating opportunities for others and believes that long-term success comes from hard work, honesty, and collaboration.
Looking ahead, he remains optimistic about the growth potential of the region and is focused on building sustainable developments that deliver real value.
